Abstract

Smart wheelchairs are emerging technologies that aim to enhance mobility and independence for people with disabilities, overcoming the limitations of traditional wheelchairs. These advanced devices integrate sensors, artificial intelligence, and intuitive control systems to facilitate safe and autonomous navigation. This paper explores the key features of smart wheelchairs, examines their impact on quality of life, and discusses the challenges and future opportunities in the field. The findings suggest that smart wheelchairs contribute significantly to improving independence, safety, and social integration for individuals with mobility impairments. However, challenges such as cost, complexity, and adaptation remain. A roadmap for future advancements is also provided.
