Background : Obesity among women in urban India is emerging as a major public health concern, predisposing them to metabolic disorders and adverse health outcomes. Anthropometric indicators such as Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist–Hip Ratio (WHR) are widely used to assess nutritional status and obesity-related risk. Objective : To assess the nutritional status of obese women aged 30–50 years in urban Patna using BMI and WHR and to examine their association with body weight and height. Methods : A group of researchers in metropolitan Patna involving a cross-sectional design (community-based) that surveyed 500 overweight women that constituted the sample studied investigated 30-50 age range between 2022 and 2023. Anthropometric data was collected using standardised measures and they included height, weight, waist and hip circumference. We applied the standards provided by World Health Organization (WHO) to determine and categorize the BMI and WHR. The statistical study included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and chi-square tests. Results : Most participants were classified under Obese I and Obese II categories. Women weighing 56–75.9 kg predominantly belonged to Obese I (41.2%), while higher weight categories showed a marked shift towards Obese II. All women weighing ≥96 kg were categorized as Obese II. Height-wise distribution revealed a concentration of obesity among women measuring 148–157.9 cm. Body weight showed a strong statistically significant association with BMI and WHR (p < 0.001), while height demonstrated a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.382). Conclusion : The study highlights a high burden of obesity and central adiposity among urban women in Patna, emphasizing the need for targeted nutritional and lifestyle interventions.
