Abstract

UniverSense is an emerging approach in the fieldof Internet of Things (IoT) security that enables seamless andsecure device pairing using heterogeneous sensing signals. Traditional IoT pairing methods often rely on manual authenticationtechniques such as passwords or PINs, which are vulnerableto attacks and inconvenient for users. UniverSense overcomesthese limitations by utilizing environmental context—such as motion, ambient sound, and light intensity—to automatically verifydevice proximity and generate shared cryptographic keys. Byintegrating data from multiple sensors, the system ensures robust,context-aware authentication without requiring user intervention. This paper presents a UniverSense-based IoT pairing systemthat enhances security, improves usability, and supports scalabledeployment in smart environments. The proposed system alsoaddresses challenges such as sensor variability, environmentalnoise, and computational overhead, making it a promisingsolution for next-generation IoT ecosystems.
