Abstract Advances in civil engineering have promoted the design of tall buildings, leading to an increase in the slenderness ratios and consequently a reduction in natural frequencies of these buildings, which may result in excessive vibrations. The present research work aims to assess the dynamic behaviour and investigate human comfort in tall buildings when subjected to wind actions, considering the influence of geometric nonlinearity and structural aerodynamic damping. Analytical results are further compared with those obtained through simplified formulations utilised in design standard. The results reveal discrepancies between the building nonlinear dynamic response and those determined from simplified design methodologies.
