Abstract

This article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis and justification of innovative approaches to the cultivation of energy poplar and the seed production of root chicory – two strategically important areas of modern agricultural production. The subject of the study is the patterns of the plants’ morphophysiological development, the dynamics of biomass accumulation and the formation of seed productivity under the influence of technological factors in the transitional climate of the Forest-Steppe zone. The aim of the work was to develop a comprehensive resource-saving system that would enable agricultural enterprises not only to adapt to global climate aridification but also to achieve a high level of energy self-sufficiency and financial diversification. The research methodology is based on the integration of field experimental data obtained at representative locations in the Right-Bank and Western Forest-Steppe with modern methods of physiological and energy monitoring. The authors have employed a systematic approach to the evaluation of phytotechnologies, which includes morphometric analysis of growth processes, determination of photosynthetic activity parameters, and calculation of energy balances. It has been established that, under Forest-Steppe conditions, traditional agriculture requires supplementation with phyto-energy clusters. The article provides a detailed account of the biological phenomenon of poplar’s ultrarapid growth. It has been demonstrated that its morphophysiological advantage lies in high stomatal conductance and the capacity for prolonged cambial activity. Particular attention is paid to plantation establishment technology, where the feasibility of using elongated cuttings as a means of ensuring survival rates under conditions of spring moisture deficit is substantiated. The study analyses the scientific foundations of chicory seed production. In particular, it is noted that the achievement of maximum seed productivity directly depends on the of soil cultivation systems. It has been established that non-plough (chisel) cultivation to a depth of 25–27 cm promotes better root architecture of the mother plant and prevents the lodging of flower stalks. An energy audit was carried out, which confirmed that energy poplar demonstrates an impressive balance: up to 15 units of clean biofuel are produced for every unit of energy consumed. This allows poplar wood chips to be used for the farm’s operational needs, in particular for the energy-intensive process of drying chicory seeds. A positive impact of poplar plantations on soil fertility has also been recorded. The article sets out practical recommendations for agricultural management, including algorithms for selecting land plots based on agrochemical indicators, calculating the logistics reach for biofuel, and methods for diversifying income by combining long-term energy projects with highly profitable niche seed production. The article proposes a scientifically grounded model for the transition to adaptive and resource-efficient agricultural production, which is of great importance for the sustainable development of Ukraine’s agricultural sector.
