Key Points

  • This research aims to develop a system for recognizing student attendance through facial recognition in video streams.
  • Utilized a convolutional neural network based on the VGGFace16 model for real-time facial recognition.
  • Conducted an experimental assessment of various types of interference affecting recognition quality.
  • Analyzed the impact of video data volume related to the number of students on recognition accuracy.
  • Facial recognition system effectively identifies students under different interference conditions.
  • Recognition accuracy varies based on the number of students and video data quality.
  • The system is recommended for educational institutions to enhance attendance monitoring.

Abstract

The problem of video recording of the presence of a student during a lesson is considered. The statement of the problem of computer recognition and the functional diagram of the system are presented. Student faces are recognized in real time using a convolutional neural network of the VGGFace16 model. Its architecture is described at the parametric and functional levels. An experimental assessment of the influence of the main types of interference and the actual volume of video data, as determined by the number of students, on the quality of recognition has been carried out. The video monitoring system can be recommended to teachers of educational institutions.
