Key Points

  • The research aims to understand how microbial communities in soil respond to differently charged nanoplastics and their role in nutrient cycling.
  • Analyzed microbial resistance in soil rhizosphere hotspots
  • Investigated function of Actinobacteria in alleviating nanoplastics toxicity
  • Assessed nitrogen and phosphorus cycling dynamics to support maize growth
  • Identified higher microbial resistance in soils exposed to nanoplastics
  • Actinobacteria species significantly contributed to nitrogen and phosphorus cycling
  • Findings suggest improved soil health and potential agricultural benefits despite nanoplastics presence

Abstract

H maintained higher microbial resistance. Functional hotspots microbial species (particularly in Actinobacteria) alleviated NPs toxicity by accelerating N and P cycling to meet the demand for nutrients limiting maize growth. This study provides a mechanistic basis for assessing soil NPs risk with implications for agricultural sustainability and food safety.
