Abstract

The aim of the experiment was to investigate the effect of the addition of the probiotic Zoovit LL and a combination of the herbs nettle+chamomile on the daily milk yield, physicochemical properties, somatic cells in milk and biochemical blood parameters in Bulgarian dairy sheep from the synthetic population. The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Institute in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Significantly higher (P<0.05) daily milk yield in the group receiving the herbal supplement nettle+chamomile and the probiotic group (P<0.01). A higher level of dry non-fat residue (P<0.05), a higher lactose content (P<0.05), as well as a higher number of somatic cells in the probiotic group (P<0.01) were reported. In the group receiving the probiotic Zoovit LL, a decrease in albumin (P<0.001), alanine aminotransferase (P=0.001), cholesterol (P<0.01), calcium (P<0.05), globulin and a higher concentration of phosphorus (P<0.05) were observed in the group consuming the herbal supplement.
