The evaluation fieldwork comprised the excavation of 6 trenches, each measuring 50m x 1.8m. The trenches were located to test geophysical anomalies and to provide a representative sample of the remainder of the site. In July 2025, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land west of Anchor Road at Coleford, Somerset. A total of six trenches were excavated. One feature was identified during this evaluation, its shape, size and fill were similar to possible infilled coal mine shafts as identified in previous investigations. The remaining trenches contained modern features including land drains and made ground deposits as indicated by the previous ground investigations.
