Randomized trial evaluates improved outcomes in knee rehabilitation with a mobile app in patients with meniscus injuries, suggesting enhanced recovery.
Key Points
This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a digital health app combined with standard care for meniscus rehabilitation.
304 patients aged 18 or older with meniscus injuries were enrolled across 4 sites.
Patients were randomized to receive either the Orthopy app with standard care or standard care alone.
Outcomes were assessed using KOOS and VAS at multiple time points pre- and post-surgery.
The intervention group showed a significant improvement of 23.8 points in KOOS Symptoms score at follow-up compared to control (EMM 5.5 points, p=0.016).
Secondary analysis indicated a further improvement with 4.65 points in KOOS Pain (p=0.047) and a reduction of -0.74 in VAS Pain (p=0.003).
Significant pain and symptom reductions were observed at multiple time points.
