A group of clinical and academic leaders is seeking to reverse the steep and ongoing decline in use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) in the treatment of depression. Their written commentary states that while concerns about the medications' interaction risks largely have eased, few companies are manufacturing MAOIs, and insurer and government policies have continued to restrict access to the drugs. The commentary was published online Nov. 26, 2025 in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and appears in the journal's March 2026 issue.
