Septic arthritis (SA) is an inflammation of the joint. It is more prevalent in children compared to other periods of life. Salmonella SA in an infant is a very rare presentation. A 5-month-old boy presented with high-grade fever, an irritable mood, and crying when his left knee was touched. The ultrasound report of the knee showed acute inflammation and reactive joint effusion with anechoic fluid. Arthrotomy was performed. Microscopic finding of the biopsy revealed acute and chronic inflammatory cells composed of lymphocytes and neutrophils. Pus aspirate culture showed growth of non-lactose fermenting, gram-negative bacilli, which was identified as Salmonella group C1. The wound site completely healed 1 month after surgery, with restored leg movement. He received one daily intramuscular injection of ceftriaxone for 17 days. He is still undergoing physiotherapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of Salmonella specie SA from Pakistan.
