Abstract Aims: We aim to translate the English Hypoglycemia Fear Survey–Parent of young children (HFS-PYC) to Arabic and examine its psychometric properties. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study. We included parents of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) aged from 1 to 15 years who are followed at King Saud University Medical City University Diabetes Center. The HFS-PYC Arabic version was tested among these parents. The glycemic control data for the children were obtained from the LibreView cloud system. Results: One-hundred fifty caregivers responded to our survey. The children’s mean age was 11.2 ± 3.7 years. The mean total Fear of Hypoglycemia Survey for Parents of Young Children scale score was 78.2 ± 19.4. The Cronbach’s alpha for the translated Arabic version of HFS-PYC was 0.91, 0.94 for the worry subscale was, and 0.65 the behavior version. We did not find a significant association between fear of hypoglycemia scores and HbA1c level, severe hypoglycemic episodes, number of glucose scans per day, and FoH scores. Conclusion: Our Arabic version of HFS-PYC has good reliability and good face validity. It can be used to measure the fear of hypoglycemia in parents of young, school age, and adolescents with T1DM, despite the validity of the behavior subscale is questionable, which needs further research related to the scale.
