Abstract

Mesh has been used for structural support in implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) for over 20 years with similar outcomes reported across materials. During immediate direct-to-implant breast reconstruction, securing the mesh to the chest wall to maintain the implant in an anatomic and aesthetically pleasing position within the breast pocket is imperative. Use of conventional mesh typically requires additional fixation which can be cumbersome and technically challenging, particularly in nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) techniques with smaller incisions. Transorb is a unilaterally adhesive synthetic mesh used in our practice to support implants. We report our technique using Transorb mesh as an adjunct in immediate one-stage IBBR.
