Abstract

Pregnancy is a dynamic physiological state accompanied by significant immunological changes that ensure maternal health and fetal development. The aim of this study was to determine the Immunological Parameters/Cells of Pregnant women in Ekpoma. A total of Thirty (30) apparently healthy health pregnant and non-pregnant comprising of both belonging to the age ranges of 19 years and above years were recruited for this study. The Immunological parameters were analyzed using Sysmex KX-21N haematological autoanalyzer. The results show a significant variation for among RBC, HGB, MCV, MCH, lymphocyte, and platelet but no significance difference for WBC and Granulocytes in when pregnant women were compared with non-pregnant women. A references value of 4.16 - 4.48 for RBC, lymphocytes of 20.30 - 22.60, PCV of 30.60 -32.00, WBC of 6.90-10.50 and platelet of 156.00 – 260.00 for pregnant women. A significant variation among RBC, HGB lymphocytes, PLT but no significant difference for WBC and Granulocytes in relation to body mass index immunological parameters for health care workers. The findings underscore the importance of establishing population-specific reference ranges for pregnant women to facilitate accurate diagnosis and management of complications.
