In recent years, UBC librarians have been working to ensure that research data practices meaningfully respect Indigenous rights and priorities. This session focuses on how the OCAP principles of Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession are operationalized within the University of British Columbia data repositories. Through case-based examples from UBC’s data collections, we will examine metadata practices, access and permission models, and governance approaches that support OCAP-compliant data stewardship. The session concludes with reflections, challenges encountered, and practical insights for implementing culturally appropriate research data management in academic settings.
