Abstract

Hydrogen evolution catalysts based on sodium-pectate nickel carbonized complexes are developed. These catalysts are promising for use in water electrolyzers. The leading catalyst with the sodium ions’ 25%-substitution for nickel cations, carbonized to 280°C, is identified. The cathodic current density with this catalyst at a cell voltage of 2.5 V and temperature of 80°C equals 49% of that obtained with the commercial Pt20%/C cathode catalyst.
