Abstract

We analyzed keyword co-occurrence patterns in publicly available obituary data from Legacy.com, the largest U.S. obituary aggregator (N = 49,641,112 total obituaries on 5/7/2026; 79,654 mentioning ALS). For each of 34 keywords spanning physical activities, occupations, environmental settings, and demographic terms, we calculated prevalence rates in ALS-mentioning obituaries and the general obituary population, then computed overrepresentation ratios.
