Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging provides distinctive features that are crucial for characterizing rare pericardial hemangiomas and differentiating them from malignant tumors.
Pericardial hemangiomas are extremely rare benign vascular tumors, accounting for 2-5% of benign cardiac neoplasms Jacob et al. (31(3):7547-57, 2021). These tumors can arise from the endocardium, myocardium, or pericardium, and are often discovered incidentally Priya et al. (4(5): 2406, 2023). Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is crucial for characterizing these masses through distinctive features including high T2-weighted signal intensity, discontinuous peripheral nodular enhancement pattern, and contrast fill-in on late gadolinium enhancement Zeina et al. (115(10):e315-e316, 2007). We present a case demonstrating the diagnostic utility of CMR in differentiating pericardial hemangioma from malignant processes.
