Abstract

Objetivo: Se comunica la presencia de un nuevo foco epidemiológico de polineuropatía amiloidótica familiar (PAF). Métodos: Se analizan las características demográficas, clínicas y genéticas del mismo. Resultados: La prevalencia en este nuevo foco es superior al resto de los focos nacionales pero inferior a la portuguesa. Todos los pacientes son portadores de la mutación c.148G > A (Val30Met). Conclusiones: Se desarrolla la hipótesis del origen portugués del foco zamorano tanto desde el punto de vista genético como histórico. Objective: The presence of a new epidemiological focus of Familial Amylodotic Polyneuropathy (FAP) is reported. Methods: The demographic, clinical and genetics characteristics of the study are analyzed. Results: The prevalence in this new focus is higher than of the rest of national foci but lower than in Portugal. All patients are carriers of c.148G > A (Val30Met) mutation. Conclusions: The hypothesis of the Portuguese origin of the zamoran focus is developed both from a genetic and historical point of view.
