A recent study led by Milner and colleagues gathered 467 experts from 54 countries across all inhabited continents to identify the most urgent research priorities for peatland science (Milner et al., 2026). Participants included researchers, government officials, NGOs, and industry representatives, including experts from peatland-rich nations such as Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Together, they identified 50 priority research questions that could shape peatland science over the next decade.
