Kohlrabi (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) is an important vegetable crop appreciated for its nutrient-rich, low-calorie edible tuberous stem and its adaptability to various growing conditions, making it a significant contributor to diversified diets and sustainable agriculture. This study investigates the influence of hybrid selection and planting density on the growth, yield, and quality of kohlrabi. Field trials were conducted using three commercially available hybrids, respectively 'Volturno F1', 'Cindy F1' and 'Kolibri F1' under varying planting densities, from low to high, to assess their effects on plant height, leaf number, tuberised stem diameter, weight and yield/ha. The results showed that 'Kolibri F1' exhibited superior performance across most traits, maintaining relatively high per-plant biomass under dense planting and achieving the highest yields per hectare. 'Volturno F1' produced competitive biomass at low density, but was more sensitive in high-density planting, while 'Cindy F1' showed relatively stable leaf numbers and stem diameters across densities, but lower yield potential. These findings highlight the trade-off between per-plant growth and total yield, underscoring the need for hybrid-specific density recommendations and production objectives.
