Abstract

Abstract Background Bronchus suis, also known as “pig bronchus”, is a rare developmental anomaly of the trachea that is usually asymptomatic, but may present with recurrent respiratory symptoms. This report presents a case of an incidental rare finding of bronchus suis in an infant with congenital heart disease (CHD). Case A 4-month-old male infant with CHD Coarctation of the Aorta underwent cardiac surgery. Post-operatively, he had recurrent signs of pneumonia and atelectasis, prompting further diagnostic studies. A high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan of the chest incidentally showed an accessory bronchus arising from the right aspect of the trachea. After appropriate medical intervention, the patient’s respiratory symptoms resolved, and his overall condition improved. Conclusion Bronchus suis is a rare congenital airway abnormality that may coexist with other congenital malformations, particularly cardiac defects. Although the majority are asymptomatic, patients may present with recurrent respiratory symptoms. The best modality for its diagnosis is a chest HRCT scan. Furthermore, the management should be individualized based on symptom severity, with generally favorable patient outcomes. This abstract is funded by: None
