Artificial intelligence (AI)-based conversational models such as ChatGPT are increasingly used in healthcare for patient education and counselling. However, their feasibility and acceptance in routine ENT outpatient practice remain unexplored. This pilot study evaluates the usefulness of a ChatGPT-generated counselling sheet for patients with Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM). Twenty adult patients (>18 years) diagnosed with CSOM received standard doctor counselling followed by a structured ChatGPT-generated counselling sheet. A validated five-question comprehension questionnaire assessed their understanding before and after receiving the AI-generated sheet. Results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in patient comprehension (p < 0.001). This preliminary study highlights the potential role of AI-based tools as adjuncts to patient counselling in ENT OPDs.
