Key Points

  • To improve grid current quality and reduce current stress in cascaded current-source rectifiers by proposing a new control architecture.
  • Proposed a coordinated reactive power control architecture for current-source rectifiers.
  • Implemented both SVPWM and SVPWAM techniques for reactive power injection.
  • Conducted experimental validations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
  • Demonstrated that conventional methods lead to higher current stress in cascaded current-source rectifiers.
  • Confirmed the effectiveness of the new control approach in improving grid current quality.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This letter first reveals that the conventional reactive power injection structure leads to poor grid current quality and higher current stress in cascaded current‐source rectifier (CSR). Accordingly, a coordinated reactive power control architecture is proposed to address these issues while enabling both SVPWM and SVPWAM to inject reactive power into the grid during DC load supply. Experimental results highlight the limitations of traditional methods and confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
