Abstract

We report the discovery of FGF21-p44, named Ailtozin, a novel 44-amino acid microprotein encoded by a +1 frameshift in the human FGF21 gene. AlphaFold2 predicts a stable alpha-helical structure with pLDDT 75. FGF21-p44 represents a previously undescribed human microprotein with potential as an FGF21 pathway mimetic for obesity and metabolic disease.
