• Developed a strategy to achieve an optimal balance of strength and ductility through a micro/nano synergistic heterogeneous structure. • SiC p /6061 LAMC contained of SiC p -rich fine grain zones, GND-rich transition grain zones, and micrometer-sized coarse grain zones. • High strength was derived from dislocation strengthening, grain refinement strengthening, and precipitation strengthening. • The enhancement in ductility of SiC p /6061 LAMC arose from the nucleation of microcracks and crack deflection.
