Abstract

The purpose of this project was to determine if providing nursing students with resilience training improves nursing students' awareness and ability to navigate the stress of nursing school and entry to practice. Students participated in a 1-hour resilience workshop, and results of a pre-and post-Connor-Davison Resilience Scale (CD-RISC 10) were measured to determine results. The six core tenets of the Experimental Learning Theory, as presented by Kolb, provide a foundation for developing lesson plans and active learning activities. The results of a study with 56 participants from a medium-sized community college located in the Pacific Northwest indicated that there was significant increase in resilience following participation in the workshop, z = 4.24, n =56, p <.001, with a medium effect size (r = .40). The median score on the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale increased from pre workshop (Md = 31) to Post workshop (Md = 33).
