Abstract Target 4 of the Global Biodiversity Framework is monitored by the Red List Index indicator at the species level, and the effective population size indicator at the genetic level. We demonstrate that since both indicators share population data requirements, they can be built into existing workflows for Red List assessment. Benefits of this approach include more efficient monitoring and generation of conservation insights that might otherwise remain unnoticed.
