The results of a study of the spectrum and temporal characteristics of plasma radiation formed during the recombination of doubly charged helium ions with electrons are presented. As a source of plasma with electron density e ≈ 1011 cm–3, a low-frequency dielectric barrier discharge was used in a cylindrical glass tube filled with helium at pressures from fractions to units of Torr and containing small additions of neon and hydrogen for diagnostic purposes. At the plasma decay stage, lines of the Pickering and Fowler series emitted by He₍^{ + }* excited levels with a principal quantum number up to n = 12 have been detected. The intensities of some of them undistorted by the superposition of molecular radiation have been used to test the algorithm for comparing the rate constants of collisional radiative recombination of He++ and He+ ions with electrons eliminating the uncertainty of the role of the destruction of doubly charged ions in collisions with heavy particles.
