Uttarakhand, often referred to as the "Natural Pharmacy of the World," possesses a unique bio-resource profile characterized by high-altitude medicinal flora and traditional landraces. Recently, the state achieved a milestone by securing Geographical Indication (GI) tags for 18 products, many of which serve as potent nutraceuticals and therapeutic agents. This article explores the pharmacological potential of GI-tagged assets such as Buransh (Rhododendron arboreum), Tejpatta (Cinnamomum tamala), and ancient millets (Mandua and Jhangora) in addressing emerging global health challenges, including metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, and post-viral complications. By leveraging the Uttarakhand Medicinal Plants Database (UMPDB) and integrating Ayurvedic principles with modern clinical validation, this paper proposes a strategic framework for the sustainable utilization of these heritage assets in modern integrative medicine.
