Abstract

Millets are small, nutrient-rich grains that are gaining attention for their role in improving overall health. This study explores the nutritional significance of millets. It shows how millets support physical health (like heart health and diabetes control) and environmental sustainability. Millets are not just food but a powerful tool for better living as it controls metabolic disorders. Regular consumption of millets is linked with improved nutrition, better digestion, and reduced risk of chronic diseases. There is a need to reintroduce as a sustainable solution for holistic health. Millets, often referred to as "nutri-cereals," are a group of small-seeded grasses grown globally as cereal crops or grains for fodder and human food. In an era marked by the dual burden of malnutrition and lifestyle-related chronic diseases, millets have re-emerged as a sustainable solution for holistic health. This article explores the nutritional profile of various millets, their therapeutic role in managing metabolic disorders, and their contribution to food security in the face of climate change. By synthesizing current research, this paper highlights why millets are essential for a transition toward more resilient and health-conscious food systems. Millets, a group of small-seeded cereal crops, have gained renewed global attention due to their exceptional nutritional profile, climate resilience, and potential role in promoting holistic health. This paper examines the relationship between millet consumption and holistic well-being, encompassing physical, mental, and environmental health dimensions. Drawing on recent literature (up to 2026), the study highlights millets' role in preventing lifestyle diseases, supporting gut and metabolic health, enhancing mental well-being, and contributing to sustainable food systems. The findings suggest that integrating millets into modern diets can serve as a strategic approach to achieving comprehensive health outcomes.
