• A new model for predicting energy-based acoustical parameters in the stall areas of proscenium performance halls is developed. • It is assumed that the first lateral reflection arrives before the macroscopic exponential sound decay starts. • The model gives good predictions in terms of magnitude and spatial variations. • Hall layout geometry and the reverberation times are the only inputs to the model. • The model enables predictions even in the initial design stage without simulations and measurements. • The model facilitates more active exchanges between architects and engineers.
