The basis for determining the construction date of Chinese Siheyuan residence is generally derived from inscriptions on the buildings themselves. Where such inscriptions are absent, the building’s history is inferred through oral history surveys. This study focuses on the Wen’s Residence, a designated cultural property, and proposes a new research method for estimating the architectural age more precisely than oral history by analyzing related records such as plaque inscriptions and the head of household's family tree.
