Electrical Capacitive Tomography (ECT) is a technique used to measure multiphase flow parameters based on reconstructed images of the media, where the accuracy of the reconstructed images is crucial. In this paper, a novel design of a gap electrode capacitive array sensor is proposed to mitigate the influence of edge effects in capacitive measurements and increase electrode coverage, thereby enhancing the reconstructed images' accuracy. By embedding gap electrodes into the traditional ECT sensor structure, the edge effects are effectively reduced, significantly enhancing the overall sensitivity of the sensor, optimizing the uniformity of the sensitivity field, reducing the dynamic range of sensor output, and markedly improving image quality. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed design of the gap electrode capacitive array sensor effectively reduces reconstruction artifacts, enhances image quality, and possesses good versatility and anti-interference capability.
