The use of a mobile app for sharing home blood pressure readings significantly improved blood pressure control in an outpatient hypertensive population.
Objective: Bulgaria is a country with very high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and the control rate of hypertension is still unsatisfactoryDesign and method: We studied 1448 hypertensive patients from 61 Bulgarian towns, using a mobile app (Kravnoto Mi® developed by Gedeon Richter- Bulgaria) for sharing the home BP readings. 54% of them were male and 46% were female. Over 50% of the patients were aged 45-65 years. 66% of them were already on antihypertensive therapy Results: At the beginning of the study the mean BP levels were 150/95 mm Hg /150/94 in the male group and 150/95 in females/. At month 3 statistically significant reduction of Systolic BP with ∼13% and Diastolic BP with ∼16% was found. 64% of the hypertensive patients had achieved BP level <130/80 mm Hg. 75% of the patients reported that the app was user friendly and 58.8% were confident that they will continue to use it. 94.5% of the participating physicians were satisfied with the app. Conclusions: The mobile app Kravnoto Mi® proved to be user friendly and improved significantly the BP control in Bulgarian outpatient population. The communication between patients and physicians was better and antihypertensive therapy was adjusted in more fast and effective manner.
