In the Claus process for sulfur production, the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the feed gas is not fully converted to elemental sulfur, and the unconverted H2S enters the tail gas treatment unit for absorption. To further enhance absorption efficiency, this study introduced a novel, highly efficient hydro-jet oscillating purifier (HOP) for H2S absorption. Initially, computational fluid dynamics simulations were employed to analyze the flow field characteristics of the HOP under various conditions. Subsequently, the absorption efficiency of the HOP was studied using Na2CO3 and MDEA solutions as absorbents under different gas flow rates, liquid flow rates, and inlet H2S concentrations. Finally, the effectiveness of the HOP was validated through industrial application. Research findings indicate that the purification efficiency of the HOP declines with increasing gas flow rate, while it increases with higher absorbent flow rates and H2S concentration. The maximum removal efficiencies for the two absorbents are in the order MDEA > Na2CO3 > 95%. For optimal absorption performance, the recommended gas velocity is 10 m·s–1 and the liquid velocity is 2 m·s–1. Industrial application results in the Luqing Petrochemical Sulfur Recovery Project have demonstrated the desulfurization efficiency of the HOP exceeding 98%, demonstrating its promising application prospects.
