Key Points

  • To assess the impact of combined anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy on older patients with atrial fibrillation.
  • Subanalysis of patients with atrial fibrillation
  • Comparison of OAC+APD therapy vs. OAC monotherapy
  • Assessment of clinical outcomes like cardiovascular death
  • OAC+APD therapy linked to higher cardiovascular death incidence than OAC monotherapy
  • No significant differences in other clinical outcomes observed
  • DOACs suggested as preferable to warfarin for combination therapy

Abstract

In older patients with atrial fibrillation, OAC+APD therapy was associated with higher incidence of cardiovascular death than OAC monotherapy, without significant differences in other clinical outcomes. For patients requiring combination therapy, DOACs may be preferable to warfarin.
