Abstract

This paper studies the design of active vibration controller for ball screw drive systems in a memory framework. Specifically, for the vibration problem of ball screw drive systems during machining, the delay term is introduced to approximate the physical dynamics of the cutting force, and the machining process model with delay characteristics is formulated. Then, the memory state-feedback and observer-based output feedback controller are, respectively, designed to suppress the vibration based on the machining process model. Further, the controller design is converted into an H ∞ norm optimization problem, which makes the closed-loop system robust to model inaccuracies and disturbances. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control scheme is verified by simulation studies. It is shown that the proposed controller can suppress not only the vibration within the bandwidth, but also the vibration outside the bandwidth.
