Differentiation Between Genuine and Compatible Printer Inks Using a Simplified Thermal Extraction-GC/TCD Method

SNSadao NAKAMURASKSatoshi KAGAMI

Key Points

  • The aim is to differentiate between genuine and compatible black inks for inkjet printers utilizing a simplified method.
  • Utilized a thermal separation probe (TSP) for sample introduction into gas chromatography (GC).
  • Employed a DB-WAX UI column for separation of the inks' components.
  • Conducted similarity analysis of chromatograms using MatchCompare software.
  • Distinct differences observed in chromatograms for genuine and compatible inks.
  • Numerical differentiation of similarities was achievable through software analysis.
  • The method demonstrated effectiveness as a practical tool for identifying printer inks.
