ABSTRACT This study investigates the role of rural aesthetics and cultural practises in promoting active ageing amongst older adults in Baan Pong Nuea Village, Northern Thailand. Addressing a critical gap in the literature, it examines how the residential environment influences elderly well‐being in a rural context. A mixed‐methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data from 144 elderly residents with qualitative insights from in‐depth interviews and site surveys. Regression analyses revealed significant associations between environmental factors, such as the quality of communal spaces and natural landscapes, and both physical and mental health outcomes. Additionally, participation in cultural activities, including festivals and religious ceremonies, was found to enhance social cohesion and physical activity, both essential components of active ageing. The study further highlights the importance of elderly residents feeling valued and included within their community, facilitated by thoughtful community‐driven design. The findings underscore the need to integrate cultural and aesthetic considerations into community development strategies to improve elderly well‐being. This study offers valuable insights for policymakers and urban planners, providing evidence to promote cultural practises and enhance rural environments, ensuring elderly populations remain active, engaged, and socially connected through the design of rural spaces.
