Key Points

  • This investigation aims to explore the accuracy of stress transfer claims regarding endodontically treated teeth.
  • Analysis of literature and trade publications on stress transfer claims.
  • Comparative evaluation of mechanical properties between treated and living teeth.
  • Examination of management protocols used in endodontics.
  • Identified discrepancies between claimed and actual stress transfer in treated teeth.
  • Revealed potential misconceptions affecting clinical management.
  • Offered insights into the mechanical differences of treated versus living teeth.

Abstract

The endodontically treated teeth are drastically different from a living tooth due to the mechanical properties and configuration of the dental structure. In this paper, we want to investigate a claim about stress transfer that has been spread through the literature and trade publications. This had a direct impact on the management protocols in endodontics.
