Geophysical Survey, Magnetometry Survey at Badsey Fields Lane, Badsey, Worcestershire

Detailed magnetic survey (magnetometry) was chosen as the most efficient and effective method of locating the type of archaeological anomalies which might be expected at this site. All survey techniques followed the guidance set out by CIfA (2020) and the European Archaeology Council (EAC) (2016). Bartington Grad 601-2 Traverse Interval 1.0m Sample Interval 0.25m A magnetometer survey of approximately 1.2 hectares of land on the outskirts of Badsey has identified a few ditches of likely archaeological interest. They are visible in the results close to the location of where a human burial was found in 1931 and may indicate enclosures which extend beyond the survey area. A number of strong magnetic anomalies are thought to be modern in origin but might be indicative of small kilns, ovens or furnaces, though such an interpretation is tentative. Ridge and furrow or former tree lines are also present in the data. A former track along the western field edge is the likely cause of magnetic disturbance in this area.
