This study explores an innovative circular economy strategy implemented in Tunisia’s Kerkennah Islands to tackle plastic pollution and support sustainable local development. The project focuses on restructuring the plastic waste sector through enhanced territorial governance, involving public and private stakeholders, small collectors, and a local plastic processing unit. It aims to optimize plastic management, reduce environmental damage and promote efficient resource use. The initiative creates local economic opportunities through job creation and export potential. By mapping actors and fostering collaboration, the project demonstrates how localized, integrated approaches can strengthen both environmental sustainability and socio-economic resilience in developing contexts.
