Resumen The analysis of the Chinese economy is one of the most interesting and challenging academic exercises today. It is not only one of the most thriving major economies globally today but also one in which reform and opening-up have been driving a permanent process of modernization for a little over forty years, shifting from a backward and essentially agricultural economy to a post-industrial society immersed in the creation and adoption of new productive forces supported by high-end technologies. Certainly, having emerged as a major economy that has earned a prominent position in global development rankings in recent decades, China surprises the world. Like any economy, at any given time, the Chinese economy faces constraints and challenges, which are presented in this work, along with the ambitious development plan that concludes this year with the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) and the impetus for the design work of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030). China has achieved its progress and development through the Five-Year Plans.
