This article explores the importance of ethnology and culture as a key field in understanding human diversity, social behaviours, and shared values. Ethnology originates from the Greek words ethnos (‘people’) and logia (‘study of’) and involves the comparison of human societies. Similarly, the Latin origin of "culture" reflects cultivation. Cultivation is not only of land but of thought and creativity. This article explores the development of ethnology from its emergence in the colonial period, where it played an administrative role and strategies of political control, to its modern transformation into an ethical, scientific, and community-based study. In a globalized world, understanding ethnology helps societies live together respectfully even with differences. It mentions the reasons for studying ethnology and culture, highlighting their importance in promoting Intercultural understanding, maintaining traditions, supporting social advancement, and nurturing understanding. The review of literature (2021-2025) explains how research has expanded into digital spaces, healthcare, and social policy. The paper also shows major challenges, measures and suggestions such as decolonization and policy support. In conclusion, the study believes that ethnology and culture are significant for global cooperation and cultural respect in today's integrated world. Understanding them not only bridges difference but also strengthens the importance of unity in diversity- the foundation of human civilization.
