In this study, the suitability of the porous disc approach for the IEA 15-MW reference offshore wind turbine has been investigated at the TU/e ABL wind tunnel by using regular and irregular porous discs. The results showed that both discs result in different turbulence characteristics, albeit having similar velocity profiles and CT values because of their similar porosity. As mentioned before, the aerodynamic characteristics of the IEA 15 MW reference wind turbine was obtained under uniform approach flow conditions of TI = 0.1%. Thus, additional measurements will be conducted for boundary conditions similar to the ones for which the CT of the reference wind turbine was obtained, to verify the suitability of the designed discs to replicate the far wake flow characteristics of the reference wind turbine. Once this is proven, the wake characteristics of both porous disc models will be investigated in greater detail for maritime ABL boundary conditions. As a following step, the effect on wake flow characteristics of the IEA 15 MW reference wind turbine will be investigated when coupled with a semi-submerged platform by employing a hexapod to emulate the motion of the turbine as a result of sea waves in the wind tunnel
