Graphical Abstract Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading respiratory cause of hospitalization. Symptoms are usually similar to those of the common cold, but in susceptible patients, RSV can cause severe disease and even death. The wide variation in response to RSV infection suggests that susceptibility and disease are influenced by multiple factors.
