ABSTRACT Albian to Cenomanian marine carbonates represent an important exploration play in the Campos Basin on the eastern margin of Brazil. These carbonates were the first sediments to be deposited on the extensive Aptian salt beds, and their depositional, structural and diagenetic evolution was strongly influenced by salt tectonics. The carbonate rocks that make up the reservoirs of this interval were deposited in shallow ramp environments with a discrete associated siliciclastic input. The halokinesis of the underlying Aptian evaporites strongly influenced the depositional and deformation patterns of these carbonates. The Albian interval has been explored in the Brazilian marginal basins since the 1970s and has been the subject of several studies. Nevertheless, several aspects of its evolution are poorly understood, which affects the assessment of the exploration potential and recovery efficiency of producing fields in this interval. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to develop a stratigraphic model for the Albian marine carbonates of the Campos Basin, on the eastern margin of Brazil, with emphasis on seismic stratigraphic and seismic facies analysis. The 2D seismic survey R0258 PSDM, well data and seismic inversion were used. A total of 7 lines in the dip direction were selected for the full seismic stratigraphic analysis. Using basic concepts of seismic stratigraphy, reflector patterns and well lithological data, four main structures were identified: (i) mini‐basins, (ii) anticline structures, (iii) small faults and (iv) large fault driven blocks and horsts. Five seismic stratigraphic units (MAC‐A to MAC‐E) and three seismic facies (SF‐A, SF‐B and SF‐C) were identified, providing a direct link between the depositional system and the reservoirs of this interval.
