The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has ushered in transformative potential for education, particularly in approaches like flipped learning, which emphasises pre-class preparation and active, student-centred in-class engagement. This paper explores the evolving practices and prospects of flipped learning in the context of generative AI, examining how AI-driven tools can support pre-class preparation, personalise learning experiences, and facilitate student engagement in flipped classrooms. We analyse existing theories and historical contexts for flipped learning, review recent case studies on its implementation, and discuss how generative AI could enhance this pedagogical model by offering tailored resources and adaptive learning paths. By examining current practices and future potential, this paper provides insights for educators aiming to leverage generative AI for more effective flipped learning experiences.
